Police release CCTV images in hunt for Barnsley sex attacker

CCTV images of have been released of a man police are hunting in the wake of a sex attack in Barnsley.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for help in identifying the man following the incident which took place today at around 5am.

A 30-year-old woman, who was walking out of town along Eldon Street, Barnsley, was approached by a man as she passed a bus stop outside the Halifax bank in the early hours of this morning.

He walked with her and then sexually assaulted her in a disused car park off Eldon Street before fleeing on to Pitt Street.

Detective Sergeant Andy Knowles said: “Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage, however it is apparent the town centre was still very busy around the time of the attack.

“We would like to speak to anybody who can identify the man in the images, or who believes they were in the area at the time or may have witnessed something that may assist, to please contact police.

“The woman is receiving the appropriate care and support from specialised officers and I would urge anyone with any information to please come forward as it could prove vital to the investigation.”
