Play sets scene for deep-sea adventure

A Hull aquarium is hoping to give visitors a sinking feeling with a series of activities based on Jules Verne's classic adventure story, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

The Deep is launching the events in the Easter holidays to coincide with a forthcoming production at Hull Truck Theatre by John Godber, which will be based on the book. Storytelling by costumed characters, presentations and a quiz trail competition will be held at The Deep over Easter, and during the May half-term and school summer holidays.

Mr Godber is working on a stage version of the book that is expected to open at the theatre in May. The Deep's chief executive, Colin Brown, said: "When we heard that John was writing a new play based on the book, we saw it as a great opportunity for The Deep and the new Hull Truck to work together and for us to run family events to complement the play.

"The amazing adventures of Captain Nemo aboard his submarine the Nautilus is one of the most popular science fiction tales ever written and The Deep is the ideal backdrop for lots of family fun."
