Rory Johnson Hatfield from Skipton was reported missing after meeting with friends in York on the evening of its Christmas lights switch-on on November 19, 2015.

The 29-year-old was last seen on CCTV walking past Clifford's Tower on Tower Street at 12.32am with a friend, before being picked up again six minutes later walking on his own out of the city centre - on the other side of Tower Street - and crossing Skeldergate Bridge towards the Skeldergate area.

The last captured moments of Mr Johnson Hatfield show him on a balcony at City Mills flats on the other side of the river.

The River Ouse was searched extensively for Rory to no avail.

Earlier this year, The Yorkshire Post spoke to his father, Doug Hatfield, who said the past five years had been ones of "misery".

Mr Hatfield said that accounts from his son's friends revealed he had only drunk two pints that evening, and that he had not been under heavy intoxication.

CCTV of him walking along Tower Street also appears to back this up.

Since then, Rory's parents Doug and Liz, and his siblings, have had to mark Christmases and birthdays with a huge hole for which there are no answers.

“It’s now five years since Rory went missing following a night out in York city centre," Chief Inspector Allan Wescott, of North Yorkshire Police said.

“Naturally, our thoughts continue to be with Rory’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult and poignant time.

“We know that his parents, Liz and Doug and all his family and friends, will never give up on Rory.

"Every single day they hope for any news about him or any piece of information which may assist the police investigation.

“The North Yorkshire Police missing person inquiry into Rory’s disappearance remains open and we will follow-up any new lead which comes to light.

“We are still urging people to come forward with information that has not yet been shared with the police. No matter how big or small this detail is, you could hold the key that unlocks the answers Rory’s family have been waiting five painful years for."
