Party row man 'knifed in stomach'

A MAN was wounded in the stomach while trying to take a kitchen knife off another man following a row at a party.

The victim, Conrad Cieszkowski, only realised he had been injured when others noticed he was bleeding after the incident when the knife had been taken from Thomas Eltringham.

Alisha Kaye, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court he had felt no pain but when taken to hospital was found to have a deep one-and-a-half inch cut on his stomach which had penetrated through to his abdomen. He spent five days in hospital.

Richard Canning, representing Eltringham, told the court he had no memory of the incident because he had drunk too much, but had admitted the offence on the basis of recklessness rather than any intention to injure.

Eltringham, 23, of Green Lane, Featherstone, was jailed for two years after admitting unlawful wounding on March 19.

Sentencing him, Recorder Jane Rowley said she had taken into account that he had a previous record for violence which "show in drink you lose your control and your temper".

Miss Kaye said Mr Cieszkowski had been drinking with three friends when a neighbour invited them to a party. During the evening Eltringham had an argument with his girlfriend following which he had an argument with Mr Cieszkowski.

A short time later he had the struggle with Mr Cieszkowski.

Canning said Eltringham had lost his accommodation and girlfriend through his remand.
