Pair held over
drug deaths
are released

Two men arrested after a suspected double death from a bad batch of Ecstasy tablets have been released on bail by police.

The pair, aged 33 and 34, were first held on suspicion of supplying drugs after the sudden deaths of two men thought to have taken Ecstasy over the weekend.

Gareth Ashton, 28, died at Wigan Infirmary on Monday, and Jordan Chambers, 19, died at Oldham Hospital on Sunday.

The pair, both from Wigan, Greater Manchester, were admitted to hospital after complaining of feeling unwell and suffered the same symptoms. Both said they had taken drugs and police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests on their bodies.

Greater Manchester Police are investigating where the men had been socialising. The force has warned that a contaminated batch of Ecstasy could be circulating.

A third man, aged 26, died in Liverpool on Sunday and is believed to have taken tablets before he collapsed. Officers in Manchester are not currently linking his death to the two in their region, but said they could not discount a connection.
