Oval office date for Charles and Camilla as they head Stateside

It will be the second time the prince has met the president, the first being in May 2011, a few days after the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The royal couple meet Mr Obama and his vice president Joe Biden in the Oval Office on Thursday, March 19, the White House announced.

Charles and Camilla will spend four days in the US next month at the request of the British Government and will not only tour Washington but visit the home city of boxer Muhammad Ali.

Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky, which features a cultural centre dedicated to the life and achievements of the three-time former heavyweight boxing champion.

The 73-year-old star retired in 1981 and has suffered with Parkinson’s disease since the mid-1980s.

There are no plans for the couple to meet Ali but they will receive a local welcome, complete with jug band, when a cultural festival is staged in their honour at an African American Centre.

Clarence House have said that central to the prince’s visit to the city is a symposium on health where he will give a keynote speech to health professionals and business, faith and community leaders about the links between health and the natural environment.

The trip will include a tour of Mount Vernon - home of America’s first president George Washington - and Charles will receive an award for exceptional leadership in conservation from the International Conservation Caucus Foundation.

The couple will also visit an Armed Forces retirement home, and Camilla, who has campaigned for the rights of rape victims, will visit the District of Columbia’s Sexual Assault Response Team.
