The winds of change ...

From: Peter Hyde, Kendale View, Driffield.

On the subject of wind farms, I am inclined to agree with the Duke of Edinburgh. While I agree with stopping the waste of our resources and using nature where ever possible, we shall eventually be blighted by white wind turbines covering our country.

No matter what we do, we are never going to halt climate change. This country has been covered in ice and has been under the sea at some time in its history. Whatever puny efforts we make it will in the future be turned into a desert or once again covered in an ice cap.

We can do all we want but many countries like China and India simply negate our efforts by their massive use of coal in their industries.

Stop this blight before it becomes impossible to even land an aircraft in England.

It would appear that the Duke of Edinburgh has more intelligence in the tip of his little finger than David Cameron (you can put a wind generator on my chimney) and Chris Huhne (you can drive my car) put together. How refreshing and uplifting to hear the Duke stating that wind farms are “absolutely useless” and all informed, sensible engineers, electrical or otherwise, would fully agree with him.

I AM writing to support Bill Carmichael’s article on the solar panel scandal (Yorkshire Post, November 18) – but why stop at solar?

The whole so called renewables policy is subsidised via electricity bills so rich landowners, foreign owned electricity companies and windmill manufacturers benefit from a tax on us all, including the poorest.

The other aspect of renewables is their appalling impact on the visual environment. Much has been said about windmills but solar panels are a also a blight on the appearance of heritage buildings and villages.
