The Dales grafters who make us proud of national park – Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Kate Dale, Helperby, York.

WHAT a joy to see you covering the Yorkshire Dales National Park’s recent accolade (The Yorkshire Post, January 27) as the best in Europe.

Particularly satisfying was to see Dales farmer Neil Heseltine, in his capacity as YDNP chair, acknowledging the supreme contributions made by those who live and work in the area, including the farmers, gamekeepers and land managers as well as those running any kind of hospitality.

These are the people who quietly work hard every day to provide the opportunities and enjoyment for visitors. The superb TV coverage of the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and the Lake District over recent months has been an added bonus, and has offered welcome respite and escapism from the challenging months of Covid and gloomy news. More4’s The Yorkshire Dales and Lakes programme in particular illustrated the sheer dedication, commitment and passion of those who live there have for their working environment.

We all owe them a huge debt of gratitude for making our lives better too by allowing us access to a very personal view. Let’s hope visitors can return soon, but with a new respect for those who shape and care for it all and call it home.
