June 22: Why must my wife go private?

From: Tony Armitage, Harrogate.

MY wife and I have a combined total of 98 working years and we have both been taxpayers for every one of those years.

My wife now urgently requires a varicose vein operation on one leg only, but the NHS will not accept her as a patient for this work so she is having to pay to have it done privately. Please will the NHS explain how their selection process works?

From: Hugh Rogers, Messingham Road, Ashby.

FOR once I have to disagree with Bernard Ingham (The Yorkshire Post, June 17). Banks are not there to serve the public. They are there to make money for their shareholders. Understanding this, I find, saves an awful lot of grief.
