Development disaster zone

From: Coun Colin Challen, Scarborough.

THE news that three of Yorkshire’s Local Enterprise Partnerships (Yorkshire Post, May 9) are to work together is welcome – but will it create a two-speed Yorkshire?

Where is mention of the coastal LEP which includes Scarborough, the East Riding and Hull? The absurd mess left by the abolition of Yorkshire Forward is plain for all to see. Scarborough is bidding for an Enterprise Zone and so is Hull, but there are only 10 Enterprise Zones left to bid for in the whole country.

We no longer have a co-ordinated approach, but a mad scramble to rescue anything from the Government’s demolition of regional development structures.

Clear-cut case

From: Peter R Hyde, Driffield.

THE failure of the current justice system can be placed firmly on the heads of lawyers (Yorkshire Post, May 10).

As a station sergeant, I was the one who decided if an arrest was to result in a court hearing. I didn’t have anyone above me to decide not to take the case.

Now there are far too many who can decide that the case does not go to court – decision-makers, evidence evaluators and finally the dreaded Crown Prosecution Service.

COULD someone please enlighten me as to what happened to the TV programme Love Thy Neighbour?

I watched the first four episodes and then the programme seemed to vanish. so it was a great surprise to read the article about the winning couple (Yorkshire Post, May 5).

Did it move to a different time, a different day? I’d love to know the answer.
