Desperately hilarious

I HAVE just read Ian McMillan’s hilarious account of a visit with his parents to a 1960s B&B (The Yorkshire Post, April 19). The lovely paradox Ian coins to express his feelings on arrival is “optimistic despair” . Entirely my sentiments as a fan of Barnsley FC, an affliction we share.

YOUR article (The Yorkshire Post, April 19) about the Royal visit to Australia was interesting – until you mentioned the “newest heir to the thrown”. Images of being thrown to the lions came to mind which does little for the relationship with the farthest place in our Commonwealth.
