His sad death at the age of 69 comes just days after that of David Bowie and, like the musician, Rickman left behind a rich and varied body of work that will be treasured by generations to come.
Best known for his big screen roles in films such as Die Hard and Love Actually, he was equally at home in TV roles or on the stage, winning a string of awards along the way. He was witty, charming and charismatic both on screen and off it, and such was his innate talent that he frequently stole the show.

Hide AdIn recent years Rickman became known to a younger generation of cinema-goers as Professor Snape in the hugely popular Harry Potter films. Not that he ever let fame go to his head.
He once said: “I do take my work seriously and the way to do that is not to take yourself too seriously.” He will be remembered as one of our acting greats.
