Where is plastic bottle deposit scheme promised by Michael Gove? – The Yorkshire Post says

IT IS clear that readers remain exercised about the amount of litter that was left in the county’s parks after the easing of lockdown restrictions – letters, and comments, to this newspaper stand testament to that anger.

They’re also perturbed, even perplexed, that the Government is no nearer to introducing a plastic bottle deposit scheme nearly four years after Michael Gove the then Environment Secretary, floated the idea.

What’s the hold-up? Other European countries discovered long ago that such a system incentivises people to recycle plastic bottles rather than simply discarding them to blight our neighbourhoods and open spaces.

Perhaps Mr Gove would care to explain, and justify, the hold-up to our readers – they’re not happy – and what message this sends out to the watching world in a year when Britain, as host of the COP26 climate summit, is supposed to be leading by example on the environment?
