Inspired Isabel

TO many admirers of classical music, the most enchanting performance remains Charlotte Church's spell-binding rendition of Pie Jesu as a 11-year-old long before she became the subject of so much tabloid fascination.

Her brilliant voice helped to inspire a new generation of young singers, and the latest is York Minister choir singer Isabel Suckling, who has just signed for the record company that looks after Elton John,

The Rolling Stones, U2 and Amy Winehouse.

She's in illustrious company. But she's also in good hands. For her career is to be nurtured by the TV presenter Aled Jones, himself a one-time child prodigy who conquered the pop charts, and the nation's hearts, as a choirboy with Walking In The Air.

He has exciting plans for Isabel, who is the youngest solo classical artist to land such a prestigious record deal. As he looks to take on talent-spotter Simon Cowell, he hopes Isabel can top the charts this Christmas. Her evocative voice certainly suggests that she can do so. However, one note of caution should be sounded – Isabel's singing is so captivating because of her natural talent and love of music. Nothing should detract from this in the months ahead.
