Blame reckless shoppers, not supermarkets, over virus – The Yorkshire Post says

IT is slightly disingenuous of Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi to suggest that supermarkets are to blame for the rise in Covid cases and that “lockdown rules are not boundaries to be pushed against”.

Responsibility rests with those selfish people who lack the common courtesy to follow pandemic protocols, such as the wearing of face masks, or spatial awareness to follow basic signs and keep two metres apart from other shoppers.

These individuals – others would probably use harsher words like ‘imbeciles’ at this point – are sadly oblivious to the fact that they’re sharing aisles with elderly and vulnerable people who are compelled to use supermarkets because they’re unable to shop online for whatever reason.

Already uneasy at having to venture out in the midst of a pandemic having obeyed both the law – and spirit of Government guidelines – to the letter, they’re being put at undue risk by those only interested in themselves.

Put simply, Ministers and supermarkets have enough on their plate without having to introduce crash courses in common sense and personal responsibility when the retail sector is already working flat out to maintain supply chains in the face of both Covid and the implementation of the new post-Brexit trade deal with the EU.

But if it is possible for supermarkets to revert to the procedures during the first lockdown when they controlled the number of people entering stores at any one time, and spare staff to point out the rules to the less considerate, it will be greatly appreciated by all those customers who do think of others when they go shopping out of necessity.
