Open invite to join erosion cash fight

LANDOWNERS, businesses and residents are being invited to join East Riding Council in lobbying Government for more funding to help communities affected by coastal erosion.

The authority has just £100,000 left of a £1.2m fund to provide practical support for those affected by one of the fastest eroding coastlines in Europe, and has pledged to continue its assistance when the funding dries up.

The council, which has extended its deadline for applications to the East Riding Coastal Change Pathfinder fund from April 30 to May 18, is to launch a new partnership aimed at securing more cash from Government.

Drop-in sessions to find out more about coastal erosion, available funding, and plans for the future will be held from 3 to 7pm at Skipsea Village Hall on April 16, and at Aldborough Village Hall on April 18.

Coun Jane Evison, portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services, said: “I want to stress that these drop-in sessions do not signal the end of the council’s commitment to communities in the East Riding threatened by the eroding coastline. We shall continue to lobby for additional funding to support people.”
