On-tour Bishop walks across the water

The new Bishop of Bradford negotiated the stepping stones at Bolton Abbey yesterday during a whistle-stop tour of the whole of his diocese.

Working his way from the top to the bottom of the diocese, the Rt Rev Nick Baines had breakfast with farmers, attempted some dry stone walling, talked to traders in Haworth High Street and had tea at Betty’s in Ilkley.

His tour took place on the longest day of the year and a month to the day of his enthronement in Bradford Cathedral. It ended with the bishop sharing a curry with trainee clergy on a visit to Bradford. He said the objective of the day was “to get an overview of some of the sights and landscapes that people hold in great affection here as well as meeting with a significant number of people on the way”.
