Olympics finale has a Yorkshire ring

YORKSHIRE could be represented at the Olympic Games closing ceremony after Leeds band Kaiser Chiefs were named on a leaked set-list.

The five-piece are among several performers on a provisional document setting out who will perform at the August 12 extravaganza.

Take That, The Who and a procession of models led by Kate Moss have been pencilled in for the two-hour musical and theatrical showpiece, which will be viewed by billions worldwide.

The remaining members of Queen, comedian Russell Brand, and a parade of the Coldstream Guards are also set to entertain the crowds in the Olympic Stadium.

According to the plans, the opening moments of the ceremony will see models of London’s landmarks including Big Ben, the London Eye and St Paul’s Cathedral covered in newspaper and unwrapped by a cast of hundreds.

The scene is based upon the capital’s rush hour and will have around 300 people hurrying around on cars, scooters and bicycles while lollipop ladies direct traffic and road workers drill.

Then, in a routine inspired by the film The Full Monty, the lollipop ladies will strip to reveal Union Jack swimsuits to a rendition of the National Anthem. Other highlights include performances from Annie Lennox, Madness, Ray Davies and Pet Shop Boys.

The ceremony will close with a huge fireworks display.
