Old skills in spotlight

Lulu Lennox, three, from Ripon was one of the children provided with an insight into crafts through the centuries at a Yorkshire museum.

More than 400 visitors were this week given a taste of 13 traditional crafts ranging from weaving and corn-dolly making to pole-lathe turning and lace-making at the Workhouse Museum in Ripon. Other events included a demonstration by a blacksmith and folk music.

Ripon Museums Trust’s Sue Dalton said: “The Workhouse Museum is about showing how people used to live, and this event gave visitors an insight into some of the traditional crafts that have evolved throughout the centuries.”
