New St John chief's live-saving drive

THE new chairman of the North Yorkshire branch of St John Ambulance will spearhead a bid to ensure that life-saving first aid techniques are brought to the heart of communities across England's largest county.

Sir Josslyn Gore-Booth has been named as the successor of Ken Home, the retiring chairman of the North Yorkshire and Teesside branch of the charity.

Sir Josslyn, 59, who lives near Richmond, will help oversee a campaign to increase the public's skills and knowledge of first aid which is aiming to provide potentially life-saving cover across North Yorkshire's vast rural areas.

The charity has set out long-term aims to increase its involvement with North Yorkshire's schools and to expand its delivery of community first aid training.

Sir Josslyn is taking over from Mr Home, who has stepped down after four years. He is the chairman of K Home International, a major engineering management consultancy that is based at Thornaby with offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Sir Josslyn has also been the chairman of the Northallerton-based Herriot Hospice Homecare, which provides "hospice at home" care to terminally ill patients in Hambleton and Richmondshire, since 2007.
