New-look Crucible ensures festive musical sparkles

Actors from the cast of a new production of the musical Me and My Girl took to the stage at Sheffield's newly refurbished Crucible Theatre yesterday as rehearsals continued in preparation for their Christmas performances.

The show opened last week, but staff at the theatre said they were expecting large audiences in the run up to Christmas, and the company were going through their song and dance numbers once again in preparation.

The production, which the Crucible has described as a "major new revival" is directed by Anna Mackmin, who recently took charge of a production of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing at London's Old Vic Theatre.
