Museum's sculpture going off on its travels as part of exhibition
The Sentry, a First World War bronze maquette by Charles Sargent Jagger, from Kilnhurst in Rotherham, will form part of the Experiences of War section of the exhibition. Cultural services manager for Rotherham Council, Elenore Fisher, said: "The maquette has been well loved by many visitors to the museum and it's good to know that one of Rotherham's treasures will be appreciated outside the local area."
Created in 1921, the First World War soldier was a trial version for the memorial at the Britannia Hotel in Manchester. Jagger used his own experience during the war and his ability as a sculptor to create a number of high-profile memorials including the Royal Artillery Memorial in Hyde Park, London.
