Murder hunt after woman's body found

A murder investigation was launched after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found in a stretch of water.

The victim, named by police as Ffion Wyn Roberts, was last seen alive in the early hours of Saturday morning after leaving a pub in Tremadog, North Wales.

Her body was found at around 2pm yesterday afternoon in drainage channel known as Y Cyt (The Cut) close to a disused canal in nearby Porthmadog.

Ms Roberts lived locally and her family has been informed, North Wales Police said.

A spokeswoman added: "We can confirm that we are treating her death as murder and an incident room has been set up.

"Ms Roberts was last seen in the Union public house in Tremadog at around 3.30am on Saturday and is believed to have travelled home along Church Street to Porthmadog.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Tremadog or Porthmadog between the hours of 3.30am and 8am on Saturday to contact us."

Details of the victim's injuries have not been released.
