MP hurt in ski-slope accident

Graham Stuart, Conservative MP for Beverley and Holderness, broke his pelvis and several ribs and punctured a lung during a “freak accident” in the French Alps.

The 51-year-old, who hopes to return home in week’s time, told the Yorkshire Post yesterday he was “OK.”

Thanking well-wishers on Facebook, he added: “I’m still in France and they’ve decided that I need an operation to put plates in to hold my pelvis together.

“So I’m in at 8am tomorrow for four and a half hours.

“This should mean I’m mobile, on crutches, pretty quickly and can travel home in a little over a week’s time.

“Thanks again for all the good wishes.”

Mr Stuart slipped on ice as he skied towards a restaurant and landed badly, seriously injuring himself on Sunday, March 17, the final day of his holiday.

He had been enjoying a weekend skiing trip in Grand Montets, in the Chamonix valley, with nine male friends.

Mr Stuart has since been 
working from his hospital bed and keeping in touch with his constituents through social media.

On March 24 he told his Facebook friends: “My lung is now repaired and all the peculiar wires have been removed.

“I’m being kept in intensive care for one more night and then can arrange for an air ambulance home later in the week.

“Then we start the long recuperation of my pelvis and getting properly back to work.”
