Mining firm admits fatal safety breaches
UK Coal Mining Ltd yesterday pleaded guilty in writing at Leeds Crown Court to a charge of failing to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees, in particular Ian Cameron, at Kellingley Colliery on or before October 18, 2009 and a similar charge relating to contractors.
Sentencing was adjourned until after the trial of Worcester-based Joy Mining Machinery Ltd, who deny failing to ensure that all necessary information was supplied to UK Coal and others about safety risks in relation to powered roof supports.
Mr Cameron, 46, from Hemsworth near Pontefract died from crush injuries.
