Medics raise bowel surgery concerns
Too many people could be undergoing procedures to remove bowel growths that might never develop into cancer, according to experts.
Concerns about missing cases of bowel cancer could be putting people at unnecessary risk of perforation or major bleeding, say the medics from Norway.
Bowel polyps affect 15 per cent to 20 per cent of the UK population, without causing symptoms but some can eventually turn into cancer if left untreated, they report in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) online.
