Masks prompt second looks as town rejoices

SKIPTON was awash with red, white and blue yesterday as the North Yorkshire town marked the Jubilee in style.

One or two people did a double take yesterday as people wearing face masks of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh paraded through the streets.

The High Street was closed for the day so people could enjoy all entertainment without having to compete with the customary road traffic.

Some partygoers stood huddled under umbrellas or sat on chairs covered in plastic as they did their best to protect themselves from the elements.

They had brought their picnic hampers with them and others brought champagne and raised a toast to the Queen.

One woman said the weather had not dampened spirts.

“We are having lots of fun in the rain,” she said.
