Man killed in plunge from Dubai balcony

Elwood McIlwraith died in Dubai, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed yesterday.

The 29-year-old former Royal Navy sailor from Hull fell from the 42-storey Laguna Tower, according to the Gulf News.

Mr McIlwraith was working in Dubai as a fitness instructor and had recently got married, the newspaper reported.

It is not clear whether he lived in the building and an investigation into his death is continuing.

An FCO spokesman said: “We are providing consular assistance to his family at this difficult time.”
