Man airlifted to hospital after four-vehicle crash

A MAN was airlifted to hsopital with serious head injuries in a four-vehicle crash in Richmondshire yesterday, North Yorkshire Police said.

The A66 near to West Layton was closed for four hours while investigations into the collision, which occurred at 4.40pm yesterday, took place.

All of the vehicles were travelling in the direction of Scotch Corner when it took place.

The driver of a blue Vauxhall Corsa, a 21-year-old man from the Ulverston area, was airlifted to James Cook hospital with serious head injuries.

A 32-year-old woman from the Richmond area, who was driving a black Ford C-Max, was checked by ambulance at the roadside but did not need to go to hospital.

The driver of a White VW Crafter Pick-up, a 42-year-old man from Wakefield, was also not injured and checked at the roadside by ambulance.
