Man, 31, found in city beck died from drowning

A THIRTY-one-year-old man whose body was found in a beck in Leeds had drowned, police said.

Officers were called to the stretch of water off Pudsey Road, near the Wickes roundabout, at 9.55am on Saturday.

The exit from the roundabout to the Wickes DIY store was sealed off to traffic and a solitary police officer guarded the scene and guided vehicles.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said a post-mortem had revealed that the cause of death was drowning and enquiries were taking place to establish how the man came to die in those circumstances.

The man leading the enquiry is Det Supt Mark Ridley, but police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.
