Commuters heading south out of Leeds found themselves stuck in severe congestion last night after a lorry carrying hay caught fire on the M1.

Two lanes of the southbound carriageway were closed to allow emergency services to deal with the fire, close to junction 41. Traffic tailed back for several miles back towards Leeds and the M621 and the M62, close to its junction with the M1, also became congested.
