The 33m project is being overseen by Leeds Council through the Local Education Partnership with support from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

The Armley centre will feature a gym with more than 100 machines and three pools.

The facilities have impressed those who have had sneak previews, including Leeds Councillor John Procter, the authority’s executive member for leisure.

Following a tour of the new centre at Armley, Coun Procter said: “We are delighted with how both of our fantastic new leisure centres at Armley and Morley are coming along.

“Both projects are running perfectly on schedule and you can already see what wonderful facilities they are going to be. We cannot wait to see them finished and opened for people of all ages to come and make use of.”

The Local Education Partnership, which helps organise education and leisure projects in the city, includes Leeds Council, the national Building Schools for the Future investment programme and private sector companies.
