Leeds falls silent in memory of Pakistan massacre victims

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor David Congreve leads a minute's silence outside Leeds Art Galley in memory of the victims of Pakistan Taliban massacre

The city held a one minute silence at 11am to show support for those affected by this week’s events in Peshawar, when Taliban fighters stormed a school.

Lord Mayor Councillor David Congreve led a minute of prayer and reflection in front of Leeds Art Gallery.

He was be joined by fellow politicians, as well as multi-faith leaders and community representatives.

Members of the public were invited to attend and join the one minute silence, which has been organised to mourn the deaths of more than 140 people, including at least 132 children.

Coun Congreve said: “People in Leeds and across the world have been deeply moved by the reports and images we have seen following these appalling events.

“It is fitting that as a city that promotes diversity, tolerance and peace, we gather to pay our respects to those who have had their lives cut so tragically short.”
