Leeds commuter chaos as house fire shuts main route

COMMUTERS faced long delays into Leeds this morning after a house fire closed one of the city’s major routes.

The A65 at Horsforth, which carries traffic from Ilkley, was closed in both directions just before 6am when a blaze swept through a two-storey detached house on New Road Side.

Traffic was diverted as two fire engines arrived from Leeds and Cookridge.

Three police cars were also at the scene along with two ambulances.

• At the other side of Leeds, emergency road repairs delayed traffic in both directions on the A63 Leeds Selby road.

Diversions were in place through Garforth between the roundabout at the A642 Wakefield road junction and the Lidgett Lane junction after a burst water main was discovered near to the Gaping Goose pub at 8pm on Sunday.
