Law threat to fight bid for 200 homes

A VILLAGE protest group fighting plans for 200 homes is threatening a legal challenge after councillors sided with developers.

Save Our Scissett campaigners near Huddersfield have vowed to keep fighting after Kirklees councillors voted to grant Redrow outline permission for up to 200 homes off Pilling Lane.

The same planning committee had previously rejected the scheme but the council feared it would lose an appeal due to be heard in January.

Developers resubmitted the plans and council planners said they could not be resisted because they could no longer rely on a “core strategy” document which was dropped earlier this year.

Yesterday Save Our Scissett spokeswoman Linda Heeley said a judicial review application was not being ruled out.

“We are all a bit shell-shocked. We are having a committee meeting at the beginning of January when we will be looking at our options and taking some legal advice.”

Two MPs had backed villagers.
