Labour of love gives stately home a model makeover

WITH its immaculate red brick exterior, grand gates and manicured gardens, it is, like Sir Christopher Wren’s famous design of Newby Hall, a labour of love.

And the latest work of art to go on display at the historic stately home, near Boroughbridge, has gained more than a little inspiration from the house itself.

The 3D model of Newby Hall has finally gone on show after more than two years of painstaking work by young artist Ed Kluz.

The model is based on a painting of the house in the late 17th century, which hangs in Newby’s Homer bedroom, and has now gone on display in the entrance hall of the house alongside two smaller dioramas with more fantastical themes.

Mr Kluz, who is widely exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and other national galleries, has produced a series of work focusing on the history of the country house and its current role.

He has also produced a contemporary print of Newby Hall, and four more of his works are now on display and for sale in Newby’s Grantham Room.

Newby Hall was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and is one of England’s renowned Adam houses with some of the most exceptional examples of 18th century interior decoration in the country.
