Keegan points way to football career goal

Former England football manager Kevin Keegan is taking part in an educational initiative to interest youngsters in jobs in the football industry.

He is one of 11 experts in the sport who will showcase the varied careers to be found in football, creating a team of teenagers who will get the chance to do their dream job for a day.

The 11 who come out on top in npower’s What’s Your Goal? project will be thrown in at the deep end – a budding football pundit will sit alongside Keegan at a high-profile Football League match, another will shadow manager Neil Warnock at QPR, while one will work alongside Sasa Ihringova, the Football League’s most senior female referee.

Other mentors include a sports photographer, a sports journalist, the business manager from Ipswich Town, and Crystal Palace’s kit manager.

Keegan said: “What’s Your Goal? is a one-of-a-kind programme that gives students a foot in the door to try their hand at incredible jobs they’ve never considered before, inspiring thousands of others to believe in their own capabilities and futures.

“We’re looking for an extra special set of skills, ones that students can’t always get across in school exams and tests; the strength of character to be a referee; the assertiveness of a coach who needs to keep their team in check when the pressure is on and the quick but caring quality of a team’s sports therapist.”
