Karting track re-opens after £120,000 refurbishment

EAST Yorkshire's only go-karting track has re-opened after a £120,000 refurbishment.

Hull Karting, a Hull Council-run facility in Preston Road, now features 16 new karts and a computerised timing system.

The track, which is open seven days a week, offers a range of activities, from a 15-minute individual drive to a full-day grand prix session in a group. Sessions are also held on a Tuesday and Friday evening, from 7pm to 9pm, for 11 to 19-year-olds at 1.50 per session.

These are organised by the council through youth clubs in the city.

Operations manager Sue Hardy said: "If you have always wanted to experience the thrill of real motor racing or just want to try something different, come to Hull Karting and have the time of your life.

"The new track is faster and safer and we want people to come along, have a great time and tell all their friends."

Guy Smith, a professional motor racing driver from Beverley, said karting was a useful starting point for people seeking a career in motor racing.

He said: "I am thrilled to see the re-opening of Hull Karting. It's a great facility and gives people the chance to get a taste of real motorsport at a very reasonable price.

"I started my career in karting like so many of the drivers we see in Formula racing and this gives people the opportunity to go out and push the kart to the limits within a safe, purpose-built environment.

"This is great for the area and great way to promote motorsport. You never know, we may have the next British World F1 champion here in East Yorkshire."

A 15-minute drive for people not booked in advance costs 15, rising to 25 for 30 minutes.

An "arrive and drive" session includes a 15-minute induction and is only available on selected days. To book or find out more call 01482 308740, or email [email protected]
