Jamie Oliver shop reaches milestone

JAMIE Oliver’s Ministry of Food shop in Rotherham is set to celebrate its third anniversary this month.

The shop in Rotherham town centre, which hosts cookery classes, was established as part of the Ministry of Food TV series and is now run as a not-for-profit enterprise, with support from both the council and the NHS.

Jan Davies, who manages the Ministry of Food, said: “It has been a fantastic three years. If people have not yet been along to the shop or used any of our services then this is a great opportunity to find out what we are all about.”

On Wednesday, August 17 the project’s third anniversary will be marked with cookery demonstrations, food tastings and what is being described as an “important announcement” from Jamie Oliver.

Since the Ministry of Food opened, more than 7,500 people have taken part in cookery classes there. A cafe and coffee shop also opened in the building last October.

Rotherham Council leader Roger Stone said: “The contribution that the Ministry has made to the local community can not be over-emphasised and I am delighted we are celebrating this occasion.”
