Inquiry pledge after children injured on fly-away castle

A SENIOR councillor has pledged a full inquiry after a bouncy castle was dislodged in high winds on the North Yorkshire coast leaving three children badly injured.

Following the accident, at White House Hotel on West Cliff in Whitby, a seven-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal and leg injuries, another nine-year-old boy also broke a bone in his leg, while a seven-year-old girl suffered concussion.

Yesterday, Coun Bill Chatt, the former mayor of Scarborough and cabinet member for housing, public health, property maintenance and sustainability, told the Yorkshire Post a full investigation would be taking place.

“This is a shocking and sad incident and I am very concerned that such a serious accident has happened,” he said.

“A full investigation will be carried out and at this time my thoughts are with the families of the injured children.”

The hotel involved yesterday refused to comment on the accident which happened at 2.40pm on Sunday.
