Incinerator plan goes to consultation

THE Environment Agency is holding a consultation over whether to grant a permit for a controversial waste plant and incinerator in the heart of North Yorkshire.

The application for an environmental permit has been made by Amey Cespa for the facility at Allerton Park, between York and Harrogate. It needs a permit to ensure both the environment and human health are protected.

The plant would ensure that both North Yorkshire County Council and York Council hit ambitious recycling targets.

It would use mechanical sorting and anaerobic digestion to produce green energy – but the incinerator is the most contentious element of the scheme.

The consultation will open on Thursday August 2 and last until Friday August 31.
