The German striker has recovered from surgery on a hip flexor injury at the beginning of October and featured for just over an hour in last Friday's Elite Development Team (EDT) match against Wigan Athletic.

Quaner, who was an unused substitute in the victory over Charlton Athletic on February 29, was not involved in the match-day squad at Leeds United last weekend, but is expected to be handed further game-time in the EDT game at Celtic on Friday afternoon.

That could potentially put him in the fray for involvement from the bench in Saturday's scheduled first-team game with Wigan and next week's Championship matches against Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City.

On Quaner, 28, whose only two first-team appearances so far this season came at the start of August, Cowley said: "For us, it is about giving him match minutes and that balance - particularly for those boys who are trying to chase their business like Colin is as he has had such a long time out.

"It is trying to give him the necessary game time to get him up to speed.

"We have a three-game week and we would love him to be available from the start."

"Collin is a great character and I know the Huddersfield Town supporters are really fond of him. He brings an infectious enthusiasm and he is always smiling and I like that.

"That is important. The world and this football club is a better place with Collin, for sure."
