Hog roast to mark church's jubilee

A CHURCH in Hull is inviting people to celebrate the golden jubilee of its rebuilding at a hog roast in the vicarage garden next month.

The event, on Saturday June 12, coincides with England's first match of the World Cup in South Africa, against the United States, but organisers at St Columba's Church say those attending the social evening, from 5pm to 9pm, can keep tabs on the score.

Organiser Margaret Liversedge said: "We are hoping as many people as possible will come and celebrate our jubilee at this summer garden party."

Those attending will also get to see a display on the jubilee in the Church, on Laburnum Avenue, east Hull, which will be open during the event.

The church was destroyed by German bombs in 1943, and it was not until 17 years later, in September 1960, that the current building was consecrated.
