A landowner has been landed with a legal bill of nearly £3,000 in a prosecution to protect the green belt.

Danny Smith, 27, of The Sycamores, Byram cum Sutton, admitting breaching an enforcement notice regarding a mobile home brought onto his land without planning permission.

The measure by Selby Council was designed to stop the home being unloaded from its carrier.

Smith was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay council costs of 2,760.

The court heard an enforcement officer visited Smith's land and saw the mobile home on the back of a trailer.

In spite of being told that it was an offence, Smith allowed it to be moved into place.

In mitigation, it was said the mobile home belonged to Smith's brother and Smith had no direct power to stop it being unloaded.
