Goth event attracts global support

THe lineup has been revealed for next Whitby Gothic Weekend which is set to take place over bonfire weekend for the first time.

The famous event, which will sees an array of weird and wonderful characters flock to the picturesque North Yorkshire seaside town on November 4-5, has an international flavour this year, with bands travelling across from the US, Sweden and Australia.

The groups will all perform at the landmark Whitby Pavilion on the West Cliff, which will also play host to a Bizarre Bazaar market, selling everything from gothic baby clothes to barbed wire earrings.

Founded by Jo Hampshire in 1994, the festival has grown into one of the world’s most popular Gothic events, For two extended weekends in Spring and Autumn, the town is abuzz as it welcomes people from all genres of the alternative lifestyle for a weekend of music, dancing, drinking and shopping.

The music lineup includes Abney Park, The Mist of Avalon, Chameleons Vox and The Death Notes.

Organiser Jo Hampshire said: “To get bands from across the globe to perform at our weekend shows how big the weekends have become.”
