Garden attraction in race for awards

ONE of Harrogate's leading attractions has been shortlisted for two of the most prestigious tourist awards in Yorkshire during its 60th anniversary year.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr is in the running for Large Visitor Attraction and the Sustainable Tourism Award in the Welcome to Yorkshire Tourism Awards.

Harlow Carr's Head of Site Liz Thwaite said yesterday: "It's a massive honour to have been shortlisted for these awards during such a special year for Harlow Carr as we celebrate our 60th birthday.

"All the staff work incredibly hard to keep this garden special and we are constantly looking at new ways to improve the visitor experience.

"Our new Bramall Learning Centre, which we opened in June, is set to be one of the greenest buildings in the country and is an example to our commitment to sustainable practices which we hope will inspire others to do the same."

Judging of the White Rose Awards is undertaken by a panel of independent judges. Shortlisted finalists will now be visited anonymously with the results being presented to the panel for final judging in September.

The winners will then be announced at an awards ceremony on October 4.
