Fugitive sex attacker, 82, held in Spain

An 82-year-old British pensioner who fled the UK after being convicted of sexually abusing a young girl has been arrested in Spain.

Kenneth Wright was detained on a European arrest warrant after being traced to an address in the Costa del Sol.

Wright, of Holton-le-Clay, Lincolnshire, will now be sent back to Britain to begin an eight-year prison sentence, imposed in his absence, Lincolnshire Police said.

The pensioner was convicted on March 8 of two charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 and two of sexual activity with a child following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court. The case was adjourned for sentencing and Wright granted bail.

Following the conviction, Lincolnshire Police were made aware that Wright had fled to Spain and issued a European Arrest Warrant for the pensioner on June 8.

In his absence, Wright was sentenced to eight years in jail and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life on June 28.

On August 25, Lincolnshire Police were informed Wright had been arrested by Spanish authorities.
