Hide AdDetectives discovered that he had fitted large containers, capable of carrying around 1,000 gallons in fuel, into a Ford Transit and a Ford Focus.
John-Lewis travelled from one petrol station to another, filling up vehicles with £130 of fuel, the most that can be taken.
Officers are warning other drivers to fit anti-theft number plate screws as this deters thieves who use false plates to carry out crimes.
The public are also urged to report anyone they suspect of stealing fuel.
