Fourth man charged over man’s death

A fourth man from South Yorkshire has now been charged with the murder of a middle-aged man at a travellers’ commune on the outskirts of Leeds.

Karl Gaskin, 41, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court yesterday in connection with the death of 57-year-old Sidney Cox has at Thorpe House Farm, on Middleton Lane in the village of Thorpe near Rothwell.

Mr Cox died from multiple injuries after being attacked on the evening of August 24.

Gaskin, of no fixed address, spoke only to confirm his name at yesterday’s hearing.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court for a further preliminary hearing tomorrow.

The three other men who have already charged with murder are: 39-year-old Ambrose Dear Senior, of Stocksbridge Lane in Doncaster; 24-year-old John Edwards Nicholson, of Little Lane, Doncaster; and 39-year-old Michael Valance Dear, of Norton Common Road, Askern, near Doncaster.

Nicholson has also been charged with assault, possession of a bladed article, possession of an offensive weapon and affray.
