Football scheme kicks out boredom

FRIDAY night football kicks off in Richmond next month.

North Riding County Football Association, the 4 Youth Service, North Yorkshire Police and Richmond Town JFC have come together to organise the new scheme for Richmond.

Aimed at young people aged 13 – 17, Friday Night Footy will see coaches from Richmond Town JFC put youngsters through their paces and each session will finish with a friendly game.

"The main aim of the project is to give young people in Richmond a place to gather and play some recreational football in a safe environment – and stop them from becoming bored," said Emma Boocock, rural football development officer for Hambleton and Richmondshire. "The scheme has been running successfully in Colburn and Northallerton for the last two years."

The first session starts on Friday September 3 at Swalegate Sports Field (opposite Garden Village) at 6pm and runs until 8 pm.
